Makeup Artist Recommends Products

Dark shadows beneath the eyes can contribute to a fatigued or aged appearance, often making skin appear duller. To combat this, one makeup artist is sharing her techniques for achieving a brighter, more youthful look.

Gemma, in a tutorial on the Pampered Wolf YouTube channel, revealed her strategy for minimizing the visibility of dark circles.

“I like to give the delicate under-eye area some extra preparation before applying any makeup,” she explained, starting with hydrating eye patches. Unlike those containing caffeine, Gemma prioritizes moisturizing patches that “deeply hydrate” this vulnerable skin.

These patches serve a dual purpose:

  • Smooth out fine lines and wrinkles
  • Create an ideal base for concealer application

“While the eye patches work their magic,” Gemma continued, “move forward with the rest of your makeup routine and remove them when you’re ready to apply your concealer.” She emphasizes using lightweight, hydrating products underneath the eyes to “plump” the skin.

Gemma believes that a natural look is key:

“The goal here is to achieve a refreshed appearance while maintaining a natural aesthetic. Less is more – the fewer products you apply under your eyes, the better the final result will be.”

While color correctors can be helpful, Gemma recommends opting for a full-coverage concealer. “There’s a specific method I use,” she clarified. “I warm up the concealer in the palm of my hand first, then gently dab a small amount onto the end of my brush.” She stresses avoiding dragging the brush across the skin; instead, patting the concealer lightly over darkened areas is best.

Once applied, “use the flat side of your brush to press the concealer into the skin,” she advises.

“After the concealer has melded with your skin, blend it out gently by going from side to side.”

Another professional makeup artist, Jordyn Woodruff, also advocates for a gentler approach. On her own YouTube channel, Jordyn shared that she avoids liquid concealers altogether. “I exclusively use low-coverage concealers to minimize the appearance of wrinkles around my eyes.”
