FAA Investigates Upstate New York Plane Crash

A devastating series of aviation incidents has shaken New York and Tennessee this weekend, with authorities continuing to investigate multiple crashes.

On Saturday afternoon, a Mitsubishi MU-2B aircraft carrying six individuals tragically crashed in a field near Copake, New York. The flight was destined for Columbia County Airport in Hudson, New York, when the accident occurred around 12:15 p.m. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), all six people on board perished.

“Everything is on the table” as investigators probe this tragedy.

Local officials confirmed that the crash was fatal but have withheld specific details about the victims, pending notification of their families. Witnesses were interviewed and a 911 call reported the incident to emergency services. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has initiated a “go-team” to lead the investigation; team members are expected to arrive in New York later this evening. No immediate cause for the crash has been determined.

The NTSB is meticulously examining all aspects of the flight and the circumstances surrounding the accident.

This incident follows an earlier event in Tennessee, where a Cessna 560XL experienced a difficult landing and ran off the runway at Crossville Memorial Airport near Crossville. The FAA reported that five people were aboard that aircraft; however, there are currently no reports of injuries or fatalities.

These events come shortly after another fatal accident on Thursday involving a Bell 206 L-4 helicopter that plunged into the Hudson River in Jersey City, New Jersey. All six individuals on board—including one pilot and five members of a family visiting from Spain—were tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Among those lost were Siemens executive Agustin Escobar, his wife Mercè Camprubí Montal, and their three young children.

The Hudson River crash claimed the lives of a pilot and an entire Spanish family.
