Tragedy struck Vancouver last night as a vehicle plowed into attendees at a community festival, leaving several individuals dead and numerous others wounded, according to authorities.
The incident occurred shortly after 8:00 PM during a Lapu Lapu Day celebration, a significant event for the Filipino population in Canada. The gathering was described as a “block party” honoring the Philippine national hero, Lapu Lapu, and took place within a South Vancouver neighborhood.
“The driver is now in police custody,” stated the Vancouver Police Department via X (formerly Twitter), adding that further details would be released as the investigation progresses.

Footage circulating on social media depicts a scene of devastation, showcasing victims and scattered debris spread across a considerable length of roadway. At least seven individuals were observed lying motionless in the video.
Photographs from the location reveal a black SUV with significant damage to its front end.
Earlier that day, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh had been present at the festival, engaging with attendees and posing for photographs.
