The highly anticipated men’s elite race at the London Marathon was briefly halted today as demonstrators staged a protest on Tower Bridge.
Members of Youth Demand disrupted the iconic crossing, scattering pink powder onto the roadway as leading runners approached. Images captured from the scene depict event security personnel intervening and removing the activists from the marathon route.
The group detailed their actions via social media, stating:
“At 10:30 am this morning, Willow and Cristy bypassed barriers at Tower Bridge to peacefully occupy the path of the men’s elite race. They were wearing shirts emblazoned with ‘Stop Arming Israel.’ The situation in Gaza demands attention; starvation is rampant. Providing weapons to those perpetrating genocide is unacceptable. We refuse to remain silent observers.”
