Hair brush recall

Urgent product recall: Hair brush sold on Wowcher recalled for posing a 'risk of electric shock' Consumer Safety

A serious safety warning has been issued to consumers regarding a hair styling tool purchased through Wowcher. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) is urging users to immediately cease operation of the “Hot Air Styler” due to a significant risk of electric shock.

The recall stems from the product’s dangerous three-pin plug, often referred to as a “clover” style plug. This type of plug fails to comply with crucial safety regulations, specifically the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 and the Plugs & Sockets etc (Safety) Regulations 1994.

Details of the Recalled Product:

  • Product Name: TP-5+1 Hot Air Styler
  • Type: Electrical Appliances and Equipment – Hair Styler
  • Wowcher Listing Names: ‘Just Gift Direct – Dyson Inspired Multi-Styler Tool’ and ‘Obero International Ltd – 5 in 1 Hot Air Hair Styler’
  • Sales Period: December 7, 2024 to March 8, 2025 and February 20, 2024 to March 20, 2024
  • Country of Origin: Unknown
  • Description: A hot air brush for hair styling featuring a black power supply cord and the problematic three-pin plug, accompanied by five interchangeable attachments designed for drying, curling, and brushing.

As stated by the OPSS:

“Clover-style plugs are unfused, and due to the dimensions of the plug pins, it is possible for users to touch the live pin when plugging in or unplugging the plug from the socket.”

Wowcher has initiated a recall of the product from its customers. The OPSS strongly advises consumers to discontinue use immediately and ensure safe disposal.
