Woman Dies at Primark

A woman’s life was tragically cut short inside a Primark store in Oldham, Greater Manchester, following what authorities are describing as a medical event.

The incident prompted a swift response from emergency services and led to a temporary closure of the town centre location.

Police were initially alerted to concerns regarding the wellbeing of a woman within Market Place. Witnesses reported that she became suddenly ill while shopping. The severity of the situation quickly escalated, necessitating the dispatch of an air ambulance which landed at a nearby Sainsbury’s car park.

Paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service were already on scene, attempting to provide medical assistance to the woman in front of distressed onlookers. Despite their efforts, the 60-year-old woman was later confirmed deceased.

“We were called to reports of a medical episode,” stated a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson. “A 60-year-old woman sadly passed away.” Authorities have indicated that there is no indication of foul play, and further details are currently unavailable.

This recent tragedy echoes a similar incident that occurred last year in Barnstaple, Devon. On July 26th, an elderly man also succumbed to illness outside a Primark store on High Street.

  • Emergency services were contacted at approximately 2:40 pm.
  • Despite the efforts of bystanders and paramedics, the man, believed to be in his eighties, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed the details, stating: “Police were called by ambulance at 2.40pm today, 26 July, following concern for the welfare of a man in Barnstaple. The man in his 80s had become unwell on High Street. Despite the best efforts of members of the public and emergency services, the man died at the scene. His death is not being treated as suspicious.”

These events highlight the potential for sudden health emergencies to occur unexpectedly, even within everyday settings.
