In an unexpected display of camaraderie, long-time political adversaries Bill Maher and Donald Trump engaged in a productive conversation during a recent visit to the White House, according to Ultimate Fighting Championship CEO Dana White.
The meeting, which took place on March 31st, was facilitated by musician Kid Rock and witnessed firsthand by White. The group was invited into the private residence where they viewed the Gettysburg Address displayed in the Lincoln Bedroom.
White described the encounter as “awesome,” emphasizing the significance of two individuals with vastly different viewpoints finding common ground. As he told Lara Trump on “My View,” “There were two guys who have not liked each other for a very long time – two guys who have many opposing views – got together and sat down and talked.”
The discussion reportedly centered around shared concerns, including the desire to address what they both perceive as excessive “wokeness” and securing national borders.
Adding a touch of levity to the situation, Maher brought a printed list of derogatory terms Trump has previously used to describe him. To White’s amusement, Trump signed both copies with apparent good humor, and Maher intends to frame them for display in his office.
During the gathering, Maher playfully referenced Trump’s meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, jokingly suggesting White’s casual attire originated from a “Zelenskyy collection.”
Reflecting on the experience, White remarked that “Nobody walks into a meeting or a dinner with Donald Trump and walks out and doesn’t like him.”
He highlighted a friendship cultivated over two decades, suggesting the visit underscored the possibility of finding respect even amidst disagreement.
White stressed the importance of dialogue between individuals holding opposing beliefs. He stated, “People with opposing views, instead of everybody hating each other, get together. Talk. Disagree. It’s OK to disagree.”
