The concept of “toxic masculinity” represents a harmful misrepresentation of the American man. There’s nothing inherently damaging about embodying masculine traits—leading with conviction, taking responsibility, fostering creation, and maintaining faith are not flaws.
However, a narrative has emerged suggesting that traditional manhood itself is detrimental. This false premise cultivates weakness, which *is* genuinely destructive.
Consider these manifestations of fragility: the man who resorts to crime; the one who shuns accountability; the individual reliant on public assistance while remaining inactive; the man consumed by ideologies dictating his behavior; the dreamer who lacks initiative; the fearful soul; and the person devoid of spiritual grounding. These are the hallmarks of a failing man, not inherent toxicity in masculinity itself.
Historically, strong and virtuous men have been cornerstones of societal order, reflecting both natural law and religious principles. Unfortunately, contemporary men often question their own strength, seeking alternative paths that ultimately undermine this established legacy. As a pastor, I witness this deficiency frequently.
True manhood requires two pillars: unwavering self-belief and faith in something greater than oneself.
Self-assured men extend that confidence to those around them, notably their partners. They avoid dependence, ensure the well-being of their families, and possess an inherent drive that fuels their actions. This inner strength is readily apparent—a quiet assurance radiates from within.
My second point underscores the importance of a belief system. Regardless of its nature, it’s essential for maintaining balance – aligning with both natural order and spiritual principles. It fosters humility while simultaneously propelling forward momentum.

The path to becoming a good man is challenging, but faith illuminates that way. We weren’t placed on this earth to exist passively; we were born to leave a positive and lasting impact.
We men should strive for that legacy.
