Retired Officer Assaulted Confronting Teens

Retired NYPD officer attacked in teen 'gang assault' after confronting them for harassing cab driver: report Crime

New York City Police are investigating an incident in which a 65-year-old man was reportedly attacked by a group of teenagers this week.

The victim, identified as a retired NYPD lieutenant, sustained minor injuries during what authorities describe as a “gang assault” on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, close to Park Avenue. According to the New York Post, the confrontation arose after the man intervened when he saw the teenagers allegedly harassing a taxi driver.

The group, numbering at least five individuals, is accused of striking the retired officer in the face and using a backpack as a weapon before fleeing the scene. The incident resulted in minor facial injuries and a knee complaint for the victim, though he declined medical treatment at the location.

“They were actively seeking confrontation, agitating anyone they encountered,” the man reportedly told the Post. “When they began to bother the cab driver, I stepped in and asked them to desist. That’s when one of them struck me from behind with a backpack.”

Police describe all five suspects as light-skinned males. Descriptions provided by law enforcement indicate the following:

  • Suspect 1: Black t-shirt, black sneakers, and black and white shorts
  • Suspect 2: White t-shirt and black pants
  • Suspect 3: White t-shirt and gray pants
  • Suspect 4: White t-shirt and gray shorts
  • Suspect 5: Black t-shirt and gray pants

The NYPD has released images of the individuals in hopes that the public can assist in identifying them. The suspects remain at large as of Friday.
