Serious Injuries Following North Melbourne Stabbing
A 24-year-old man is recovering in hospital after a brutal stabbing occurred during his morning jog in Melbourne’s north earlier today.
The incident unfolded as the young man was exercising, when he reportedly encountered an assailant who attacked him. He sustained significant wounds, including a stab to the abdomen and lacerations to his neck and chin.
Fortunately, quick action by bystanders proved crucial. Witnesses at a nearby service station in Reservoir immediately rushed to his aid, attempting to control the severe bleeding while contacting emergency services.
“It was shocking, I couldn’t understand what was happening actually,” recounted one service station employee who wished to remain anonymous. “I just saw him coming and he was screaming… He kept saying ‘I got stabbed, I got stabbed, I got stabbed’.”
Emergency responders arrived on the scene approximately seven minutes after the initial call. The victim’s parents, who had accompanied him to an Anzac Day dawn service earlier that morning, were present and visibly distressed as paramedics assessed his condition.
The attack reportedly took place near a pizza shop on Spring Street in Reservoir. Following the assault, the man managed to flee approximately 150 meters, seeking refuge at the service station where he collapsed, leaving a trail of blood along the way.
“He was holding his tummy,” the worker added. “I gave him a towel and paper towels to hold it, asked him to sit down, and finally he sat down and then [the bleeding] stopped a little bit.”
His family confirmed that he had just returned from attending an Anzac Day service with them prior to embarking on his routine morning run.
Currently, the victim is in stable condition at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgical procedures.
- The attacker remains at large.
