Nicholson and Huston’s enduring friendship

Anjelica Huston maintains a significant friendship with former partner Jack Nicholson, describing their connection as “important.”

Speaking with *People* magazine, the 73-year-old actress revealed that she and Nicholson, who had an on-and-off relationship spanning from 1973 to 1990, have preserved a close bond over the years. While frequent in-person visits have become challenging due to logistical hurdles, their connection remains strong.

“Life presents obstacles,” Huston stated. “Additionally, ongoing road construction near his residence makes reaching him quite time-consuming – an irritating situation, especially considering my tendency to arrive late.”

Despite seeing each other less often than she’d prefer, Nicholson has become a reliable source of support during difficult periods in her life.

During the recent Los Angeles wildfires that forced her evacuation, Huston recalled receiving a call from Nicholson entirely unexpectedly. “My phone just rang out of nowhere,” she said, adding, “It’s always comforting when he calls.” He offered his assistance and a place to stay amidst the chaos of the evacuation, which necessitated leaving her ranch and all her pets.

“It was heartbreakingly sweet,” Huston reflected. “I’ve replayed it in my mind countless times, and next time, I would certainly accept his offer.”

In the same interview, Huston disclosed that she privately battled cancer but has been “in the clear” for four years. She refrained from disclosing the specific type of cancer, but expressed immense gratitude for her recovery.

“It means so much to me,” she declared. “It’s a fantastic thing, and I’m very proud of myself.”

Expressing a sense of good fortune, Huston praised her medical team: “My doctors have been wonderful.” She continued, “It wasn’t something that happened easily; it was quite the shock. However, it instilled in me an awareness of what to avoid – certain behaviors and places. One of those realizations was taking life too seriously. Now, I embrace opportunities with laughter and strive not to overthink things.”

The diagnosis occurred in 2019, shortly after completing work on “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.”

Acknowledging that discussing such a personal matter can be uncomfortable, Huston hopes sharing her experience and celebrating her recovery will inspire others facing similar challenges.

  • “Life is both fragile and extraordinary.”
  • “It reinforces the idea that the world is vast, and you can find your place within it.”
  • “It instills a sense of readiness for whatever may come.”

Huston concluded with a sentiment reflecting her renewed perspective: “It gives you the feeling that you’re ready for whatever happens.”
