Man dies in Perth hit-run

Perth man killed during hit-run on way home from supermarket Crime

A tragic incident unfolded last night in Perth’s western suburbs when an elderly man died after being struck by a vehicle while walking home from a nearby grocery store.

The accident occurred around 6:25 pm on Herdsman Parade in Wembley, and police are currently searching for the driver who left the scene.

Footage captured on CCTV shows the man carrying two shopping bags as he approached a pedestrian crossing. Moments later, a collision resulted in severe injuries.

A local resident, who had briefly spoken with the man just minutes before, rushed to offer assistance. “Fortunately, there was a couple of doctors with the person on the ground,” he stated. “It’s pretty upsetting. It’s obviously a road that we cross with the kids every day.”

The impact scattered the victim’s groceries across the roadway. Despite immediate efforts to help, the man succumbed to his injuries after being transported to Royal Perth Hospital.

Detectives have been meticulously reviewing security footage from surrounding areas in an effort to identify the vehicle and locate its driver. The incident occurred just a short distance from the victim’s residence.

Those who knew him describe the man as a gentle, kind individual living alone while his family resides interstate. As one neighbor commented, “There’s obviously a family out there who are grieving at the moment, so hopefully they can find him and her and deal with the matter as quickly as possible.”

Major Crash Investigation Unit is appealing to anyone who may have relevant dashcam footage from the area during that time to come forward and assist in their investigation.

The community mourns the loss of this beloved resident, and authorities are working diligently to bring those responsible for this devastating event to justice.
