A man is now formally accused of homicide following an investigation that spanned nearly a month since the discovery of a young woman’s body in a waterway.
On March 24th, Audrey Griffin, aged nineteen, was located partially submerged within Erina Creek, situated on the Central Coast of New South Wales at approximately 3:45 PM. Her disappearance had been reported to authorities thirty-six hours prior, following her last known sighting at 3:00 AM on March 23rd along The Entrance Road in Erina.
Initially, law enforcement treated the incident as a non-criminal matter, stating that detectives had concluded their initial assessment presented no immediate cause for suspicion. However, after receiving limited public assistance, investigators revisited the case on April 17th and maintained the “non-suspicious” classification.
““We are continuing to appeal for any information that may assist us in this investigation,” stated police at the time.”
Following a thorough and protracted inquiry, officers apprehended a fifty-three-year-old male in Surry Hills yesterday at 12:20 PM. “The arrest followed extensive investigations into the circumstances surrounding Ms Griffin’s death,” according to a statement released by the police department.
Police are alleging that the man engaged in a physical confrontation with Griffin, resulting in her fatal injuries. He was subsequently taken into custody and charged with murder relating to her death. Furthermore, he faces eleven additional charges related to domestic violence offenses.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Downing Centre Local Court today for his initial hearing.
