Jeanty Compares Military Life to the Draft

As Ashton Jeanty prepares for a monumental moment – his anticipated selection in the NFL Draft and the realization of a long-held professional aspiration – he credits a valuable insight gained from his father, Harry. The journey to this point hasn’t been straightforward, mirroring, in some ways, the rigorous preparation required for military service.

Harry Jeanty’s career with the Navy presented a demanding entrance process involving extensive evaluations and screenings akin to the medical assessments and physical tests athletes undergo during the draft and combine seasons. “It’s the same way that’s in the draft and combine, you gotta do that same stuff,” Ashton explained to Fox News Digital, highlighting this shared experience.

A recent visit to the General Mitchell Air National Guard Base in Milwaukee, facilitated by a partnership with USAA, provided Ashton with firsthand exposure to the dedication of military personnel. “It really was a no-brainer for me,” he stated. “My relationship with my dad, him being in the military, but also just thankful to USAA for the partnership, the Salute to Service partner. To visit the Milwaukee National Guard, get in the life, see what they really do.” This experience offered a perspective beyond his usual video game pursuits. “I be playing Call of Duty, but that’s not real life,” he remarked.

Observing the meticulous routines and procedures at the base underscored a significant lesson: precision and an unwavering commitment to detail are paramount. “It was cool to see their daily process and how detailed everything is, what they’re doing on a daily basis. We wouldn’t be able to do what we do without their service,” Ashton emphasized.

He described the experience as “dope,” emphasizing the importance of understanding the stringent standards and minimal tolerance for error inherent in military operations. “I think the biggest thing was just to see how detailed everything is and how there’s little room for error and mistakes. Little to none, honestly. They’re doing these things every day, so the precision and attention to detail is amazing.”

Ashton’s newfound appreciation extends beyond professional sports; it reflects a deeper connection with his father’s experiences. “He wouldn’t give too much details exactly on what they were doing,” Ashton revealed. “Now that I’m older, he tells me about stuff that happened on the ship and stuff like that. I was so young before, so I didn’t really understand it. But now, there’s definitely conversations.” This increased dialogue has fostered a greater understanding of his father’s service.

Notably, Ashton’s impressive collegiate performance – earning second-most rushing yards in a single season at Boise State – stands as testament to his own dedication and athletic prowess.
