Heat Dome Set to Bring 25C Temperatures

A period of exceptionally warm weather is set to continue across Britain for another five days before shifting towards cooler and wetter conditions early next month.

Following a stretch of sunshine, experts predict a change in weather patterns with high pressure, which has been driving the unusually high temperatures, gradually moving away. This will open the door for Atlantic weather systems to return.

Kathryn Chalk, a meteorologist at the Met Office, highlighted the ongoing favorable conditions: “We have plenty of sunshine on offer throughout the week thanks to this dominant high-pressure system, bringing fine, dry weather and calmer winds compared to recent days. Temperatures will continue to rise as the week progresses.”

The current spell of good weather is attributed to a ‘blocking pattern’ that has effectively shielded the UK from Atlantic storms, postponing the usual April showers.

According to Jim Dale, meteorologist for British Weather Services: “This pattern is expected to break down around the weekend, likely Sunday or Monday. High pressure will retreat and allow a more changeable weather front to move in during mid-April.”

Temperatures are currently running six to seven degrees above average for this time of year.

Dale further stated: “Friday or Saturday could potentially be the hottest day of the year so far, with temperatures possibly reaching up to 25°C. However, the increase in wind speed accompanying this warmth will heighten the risk of wildfires, especially considering the already dry conditions.”

The prolonged warm spell has prompted bookmakers to lower odds on a record-breaking April. John Hill, spokesperson for Coral, commented: “We’ve witnessed a glorious start to the month, and if temperatures continue their upward trajectory, we could be looking at the hottest April in UK history.”

Despite the optimism, Netweather cautions that conditions may become more unstable later in the week. A spokesman warned: “It’s important to monitor forecasts as there’s a significant chance of changing weather, particularly across southern and western areas, potentially marking the end of this extended period of fine weather.”

Key takeaways:

  • Five more days of warm, sunny conditions are expected.
  • A shift in weather patterns is anticipated around the weekend, bringing potential rain and cooler temperatures.
  • Friday or Saturday could see record-breaking highs nearing 25°C.
  • Increased winds pose a wildfire risk due to dry conditions.

“The UK is currently enjoying an early taste of summer,” stated Dale.
