Zack George, known as Steel on the popular television series *Gladiators*, and his wife Samantha are mourning the loss of their infant son, Leo. The couple announced this devastating news earlier this week.
Leo passed away just 13 days after being born prematurely, following a valiant struggle for survival. Born on March 26th, 2025, at only 23 weeks gestation and weighing just one pound eight ounces, he was affectionately nicknamed “Leo the lion” by his parents due to his remarkable spirit.
Zack and Samantha had been consistently updating their followers about Leo’s condition since his early arrival. The experience, they admitted, had been a “rollercoaster of emotions.” Zack previously expressed how much support Leo received, stating he felt the boy had “a nation behind him” cheering him on.
In a heartfelt social media tribute, the couple wrote:
“Your mummy brought you into this world and your daddy held you as you left. Leo… you showed us what true strength looks like, and we are so incredibly proud of you.”
Their message continued:
- “You filled the world with such positivity during your short time with us, and we felt that warmth abundantly. Thank you all for sharing in it.”
- “Although our time together was brief, you gave us a lifetime of love.”
- “Thank you for letting us know when you’d had enough of this fight. We are eternally grateful that the decision wasn’t ours to make. Leo, our lion, we love you more than words can say. Rest easy, little boy.”
The news has been met with an outpouring of support and condolences from fellow *Gladiators* stars.
Joey Fishburn commented: “Can’t imagine your heartache, wishing you and your family nothing but love and peace throughout this time!”
Montell Douglas wrote, “RIP baby Leo. Thoughts and prayers with both of you.” Jodie Ounsley added, “My heart genuinely breaks for you both, sending big hugs.”
JB Gill, formerly of JLS, also expressed his sympathy: “Heartbreaking, what a little warrior, thoughts and prayers to you both and your family.”
Zack and Samantha, who wed in September 2024, revealed they were expecting their second child in January 2025. They already have a two-year-old daughter named Ivy, who excitedly announced the arrival of her new sibling with an Instagram post featuring an ultrasound scan.
Both Zack and Samantha are accomplished bodybuilders; Zack was crowned UK’s Fittest Man in 2020 and joined the rebooted *Gladiators* series last year, where he embodies the persona of Steel.
