Authorities have apprehended the driver involved and are currently holding them in custody. Initial reports and visual evidence depict a damaged black SUV situated close to several food vendors at the festival site.

Earlier that day, Jagmeet Singh, leader of the New Democratic Party and a contender for prime minister in Monday’s upcoming election, delivered remarks to the assembled crowd. Following news of the event, Singh conveyed his profound dismay stating, “I am horrified to learn that innocent people have lost their lives.”
Pierre Poilievre, leader of the Conservative Party and a leading opposition figure, also responded with shock at the unfolding events. “Shocked by the horrific news emerging from Vancouver’s Lapu Lapu Day Festival tonight,” he stated. “My thoughts are with the Filipino community and all those affected by this senseless attack.”
British Columbia Premier David Eby shared his condolences, expressing that he was “shocked and heartbroken to hear of the lives lost.”
