Darts icon Phil Taylor, widely regarded as the greatest player in the history of the sport, has expressed enthusiasm for appearing on the popular television program *I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!* He attributes this interest to his propensity for conversation.
Taylor amassed an astonishing 16 World Darts Championships during his career, a record unmatched by any other competitor; Michael van Gerwen trails with three titles. Following his retirement from professional darts, the celebrated athlete has embraced a more tranquil life in Staffordshire, largely avoiding involvement in the sport he dominated for decades.
Now aged 64, Taylor is contemplating leaving behind this peaceful existence to venture into the challenges of the jungle after being asked about participating in next year’s season of the show.
“Yeah, I’d be open to it,” Taylor stated in a conversation with OLBG. “We’ve got to talk, obviously. Bob [his manager] will sort all that out. There aren’t any challenges there that I wouldn’t be able to handle.” He added, “I know they don’t put anything in there designed to cause serious harm; you might get bitten or something could go up your nose, but we’ll see how it goes. It would definitely be a challenge and something completely new for me. I think I’d quite enjoy it.”
Taylor also admitted to being a viewer of the show, typically catching highlights in the morning after an early bedtime.
“I tend to watch the highlights in the morning to be honest with you because I go to bed by about 8 o’clock. So, I’ll catch up with daytime TV.”
When asked about what he finds appealing about *I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!*, Taylor offered a succinct response.
- “Ant and Dec are always brilliant.”
- He enjoys witnessing the tension that arises when celebrities endure limited diets of rice and beans.
- The trials themselves are intriguing, showcasing diverse personalities.
- “They’ve always got to throw someone in the mix that’s going to irritate people,” Taylor observed, adding, “That would be a challenge for me as well because I can’t keep my mouth shut.”
Taylor initially voiced his interest in joining the show last October, humorously comparing the potential experience to his daily walks around Hanley.
“I go walking around Hanley; it can’t be any worse than that,” he quipped. “Spiders I might be a bit dodgy with, I don’t like spiders.”
