Stacey and Joe draw viewer concern

BBC Stacey and Joe viewers express concern for Stacey Solomon as they brand Joe Swash 'liability' Reality Television

The latest installment of the BBC documentary series, Stacey and Joe, offered a candid glimpse into the day-to-day lives and dynamic of couple Stacey Solomon and Joe Swash. The episode highlighted both the charm and challenges inherent in their relationship and expanding family.

Many viewers commented on Solomon’s seemingly boundless patience when navigating Swash’s spontaneous nature.

“Ultimately, I’m very much spur of the moment,” Swash confessed to the cameras. “I have a thought and I’ll do it, and I won’t think about the consequences. If you’re a little bit stressed, the last person you want to hang around with is me. I do silly things where in my head it’s fine, but then there’s confusion – ‘why have you done that?’ I do things that annoy me, I do things I shouldn’t do, and don’t do the things I should.”

The episode featured several minor domestic disagreements. One instance involved Swash mistakenly adding bleach to the washing machine, prompting a visible reaction from Solomon. Later, a discussion arose regarding untidiness around the house, leading Swash to temporarily depart for a project elsewhere.

A phone call between the couple suggested an attempt at reconciliation, but the conversation quickly reignited their earlier disagreement.

Solomon explained, visibly frustrated: “I came home and thought, ‘I’m going to tidy the front room, because the front room’s a mess,’ and all over my sofa were beans.”

Swash countered, “How many baked beans were on the sofa?” Solomon responded emphatically, “About 10 baked beans!”

The exchange escalated further. Swash defended his actions:

“They had beans on toast while they were watching Bluey, ok?” He continued: “You go on like you’ve never, ever given those kids food in the front room, which would be a lie.” “I might give then a biscuit on the sofa, but I would never sit there and give them beans on toast on the sofa.”

Growing weary of the discussion, Swash retorted: “Your reaction is an overreaction; I feel like you’re out of order.”

He added defensively, “I spent the day looking after the kids,” to which Solomon calmly replied: “But you are a dad… That is a normal thing to do.” The disagreement culminated in Swash abruptly ending the phone call.

Addressing the cameras afterward, he quipped, “That went well.”

The ensuing awkwardness resonated with viewers who took to social media to share their reactions:

  • “Oh my goodness Joe is so annoying #staceyandjoe”
  • “Did Joe actually act in EastEnders or was he just being himself? #staceyandjoe”
  • “How does Stacey Solomon put up with Joe Swash? He’s an absolute liability. #staceyandjoe.”
  • “It’s a minor miracle that Stacey Solomon hasn’t murdered Joe Swash by now. #staceyandjoe.”

While some found Swash exasperating, others appreciated the reality of the situation.

  • “I’m howling at Joe putting bleach in with his tshirts and runners cause he wanted them to be extra white.”
  • “I’m loving this show, love how real they both are. #staceyandjoe @realjoeswash”
