Royals Support Marathon

King Charles and Queen Camilla issue a statement ahead of London Marathon Royalty

His Majesty King Charles III and Queen Camilla have extended their best wishes to all those participating in this year’s London and Manchester Marathons, taking place Sunday.

The King, 76, and the Queen, 77, shared a message of support ahead of the races, accompanied by an image featuring a gold medal sourced from the official London Marathon account. Their caption read: “Good luck to everyone taking part in the @Londonmarathon and @Manchestermarathon today!”

This year’s London Marathon anticipates over 56,000 runners, potentially setting a new world record for participation. The event also has the opportunity to surpass the current title held by the TCS New York Marathon – which saw 55,646 finishers last November – and claim the distinction of being the world’s largest marathon.

Runners along the London route will pass iconic landmarks including Big Ben, Tower Bridge, and Buckingham Palace. Notably, the finish line is situated directly in front of Buckingham Palace, the official residence of the British monarchy.

Simultaneously, the Manchester Marathon – recognized for its swift, level course and welcoming atmosphere – commenced on Sunday morning. Organizers describe it as the UK’s fastest, flattest, and friendliest major marathon.

The royal couple’s post has garnered widespread positive responses from social media users who echoed their well wishes:

  • “Good luck everybody!”
  • “Looking forward to cheering on everyone.”
  • “Good luck to everyone running.”

Beyond the marathons, King Charles and Queen Camilla are spearheading plans to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day. A series of events will begin on May 5th, Buckingham Palace has announced.

The commemorations, which will span several days, aim to honor the sacrifices and service of millions who fought during World War II throughout the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth. Joining them in these observances will be other senior members of the royal family, including Prince William and Princess Catherine.
