Samsung to Resume One UI 7 Rollout

The highly anticipated software upgrade, One UI 7.0, is experiencing a temporary pause in its global rollout due to a reported bug affecting some Galaxy device owners. Initially slated to begin distribution on April 7th for devices in the UK, Europe, and Asia, followed by the United States on April 10, 2025, the update has been temporarily halted worldwide as a precautionary measure.

The issue primarily affects certain models including the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z Flip 6, preventing some users from unlocking their devices after installation.

While other Galaxy devices remain unaffected, Samsung has paused the rollout across all supported models to ensure stability. The update, built on top of Google’s Android 15 platform, incorporates numerous features developed by Google and promises a significant enhancement for Galaxy owners.

According to a statement released by Samsung Solutions Manager on the company’s Community Forums, the pause is due to “maintenance-related issues.” The inspection is now complete, and a resumption of the rollout is anticipated shortly. The official statement reads:

“Samsung Electronics had been rolling out the One UI 7 update for models such as the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold6, and Galaxy Z Flip6 since the 7th of this month, but temporarily suspended the update due to some issues requiring maintenance. Samsung Electronics has completed its inspection and will resume updates soon. We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused.”

The One UI 7.0 upgrade introduces a host of new features and design refinements.

  • Now Bar: A new, pill-shaped widget located at the bottom of the screen—similar in concept to Apple’s Dynamic Island—provides quick access to real-time information such as timers, music playback, and workout progress.
  • Quick Panel Redesign: The settings panel has been reorganized with translucent bubbles for easier navigation of toggles like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Cellular Data, and Torch.
  • App Icon & Widget Refresh: Expect a redesigned aesthetic featuring darker color options, gradient backgrounds, customizable widget shapes, and background transparency.
  • Settings Menu Revamp: The Settings menu now incorporates round icons for improved organization.
  • Galaxy AI Integration: A suite of AI-powered tools are integrated throughout the operating system to enhance productivity. Features include:
    • AI Select: Provides contextually relevant prompts (e.g., turning a video clip into a GIF).
    • Writing Assist: Proofreads and adjusts the tone of written text.
    • PDF Summarization: Quickly summarizes lengthy documents and webpages.
    • Audio Eraser: Removes unwanted noise from videos.
    • Call Transcription: Automatically transcribes phone calls in 20 languages.
  • Enhanced Security: Includes Theft Detection Lock, a feature borrowed from Google Pixel devices that uses sensors to detect when a phone is snatched and immediately locks the screen.
  • Improved Gemini Integration: Enables more conversational control of devices with support for multi-app actions and natural language searches within Settings. For example, typing “my eyes hurt” will trigger settings adjustments for brightness and blue-light reduction.

While the Galaxy S25 series, S24+, and S25 Ultra were released pre-loaded with One UI 7.0 and devices like the Galaxy A36 and A56 recently received the update, those who haven’t upgraded their handsets since January are eagerly awaiting access to these new features.

Samsung has confirmed that a wide range of devices—including models dating back as far as 2021—will be eligible for the One UI 7.0 upgrade, including:

  • Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra
  • Galaxy Z Fold 6 & Galaxy Z Flip 6
  • Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra
  • Galaxy S24 FE and Galaxy S23 FE
  • Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra
  • Galaxy S22 FE
  • Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra
  • Galaxy Z Fold 5 & Galaxy Z Flip 5
  • Galaxy Z Fold 4 & Galaxy Z Flip 4
  • Galaxy Z Fold 3 & Galaxy Z Flip 3
  • Galaxy Tab S10 & Galaxy Tab S9
  • Galaxy Tab S9 FE
  • Galaxy Tab S8
  • Galaxy Tab S6 Lite

Despite the anticipation, Samsung has faced some criticism for delaying the rollout of this update, as their previous flagship phones typically received Android updates shortly after Google’s release. The extended development period allowed for thorough testing and refinement, aiming to deliver a more stable experience for users.
