Princess Anne vital says CEO

Princess Anne’s dedication to the charities she supports has been praised as “crucially important,” according to the CEO of The Eric Liddell Community.

The Princess Royal, who currently serves as patron for over 300 organizations, recently made her inaugural visit to The Eric Liddell Community in a new role as their Royal Patron. During the visit, she expressed gratitude to Bernadette Morrison, a long-standing volunteer retiring after 14 years of devoted service.

The occasion also marked the unveiling of the Eric Liddell Exhibition at the community center—a tribute to the legendary Olympic gold medalist and Scottish sporting hero whose achievements continue to inspire a century after his victory in Paris in 1924.

John MacMillan, CEO of The Eric Liddell Community, shared with GB News that he was “truly honored” when Princess Anne accepted the invitation to become their Royal Patron. This first engagement took place on April 7th.

The charity aimed to provide Her Royal Highness a thorough understanding of their efforts in supporting vulnerable individuals throughout Edinburgh, including those facing dementia and unpaid carers.

Princess Anne previously served as Patron of The Eric Liddell 100 (2022–2024) before transitioning to this new role. MacMillan emphasized the significance of royal involvement:

“As CEO, I’ve had the privilege of welcoming Her Royal Highness to several events over the years, and each time it is a genuine honor. We are grateful for the opportunity to share with her the impact of our work and the stories of those we serve.”

He further explained:

  • “Her Royal Highness’ involvement has been vital, lending her voice to champion our cause and securing the legacy of a true British icon.”
  • “With this support, we can now share our work, challenges, and successes with a broader regional, national, and even international audience—an achievement we wouldn’t have reached without her.”

MacMillan also noted Princess Anne’s remarkable knowledge: “She is genuinely interested, highly knowledgeable, and an absolute pleasure to be around.” He recalled conversations with the Princess Royal, noting her “deep understanding of the important work” conducted by The Eric Liddell Community.

“Everyone here feels incredibly privileged to have her support,” he continued.

Speaking on the broader role of the Royal Family in charitable endeavors, MacMillan stated: “In my experience, they can make a hugely meaningful impact on the organizations they support.”

“For local people and small charities, this level of recognition is not only validating but vital—shining a light on the crucial work being done every day to support communities.”

The CEO added that Princess Anne’s visits consistently bring “joy and excitement,” creating lasting memories for those who benefit from the charity’s services.

“Her warmth, attention, and genuine care have left a lasting impression on everyone she has met through The Eric Liddell Community,” he concluded.
