A shooting incident at Florida State University in Tallahassee resulted in six injuries Thursday, prompting a widespread campus lockdown and significant law enforcement response. A suspect is now in custody, though details regarding their identity remain undisclosed.
The university initially alerted the community via social media shortly before noon, reporting an active shooter situation within the student union and directing everyone to seek immediate shelter. Classes have been suspended until Friday, and all athletic events scheduled for Tallahassee this weekend have been called off.

The lockdown was lifted around 3:00 p.m., after authorities confirmed the situation had been resolved and the threat neutralized. LSU first conveyed this information to its community.
Attorney General Pam Bondi posted on X, “The [FBI] is on the scene at Florida State and we are in communication with agents on the ground. Our priority is the safety of everyone involved. We will keep updating as we learn more. Praying for all.”
Federal involvement quickly followed, with the FBI providing substantial support to local law enforcement.
FBI Director Kash Patel stated he had been briefed on the unfolding events, and FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino confirmed the bureau’s presence at FSU, adding in a post on X, “The FBI is on the scene at FSU. I am en route back to DC from our LA office but we are getting updates on the situation on the plane. We will update you as we learn more.”
Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH) released a statement emphasizing their commitment to providing care and support.
“At this time, details are still unfolding, and we do not yet have specific information to share. However, we want to assure the community that our teams are fully mobilized and prepared to provide the highest level of care and support to all those affected. We remain in close coordination with emergency responders and public safety officials.”
While TMH confirmed providing medical attention to injured individuals, they withheld specific details regarding patient numbers or treatments administered due to privacy regulations.
