Monty Don Shares Grief Post

Monty Don, 69, met with floods of support as BBC Gardeners' World star shares post on grief: 'So sorry' Lifestyle

Monty Don, the beloved gardening expert, has been met with an outpouring of sympathy after sharing a heartfelt tribute to a cherished friend who recently passed away.

The 69-year-old broadcaster and horticulturist posted a captivating image on Instagram—a breathtaking sunset silhouetting a tree against the evening sky—accompanied by a poignant message. He wrote, “The end of a profoundly moving and celebratory day saying goodbye to a dear friend – all done in magnificent style. I think Rosie would have approved.”

The post swiftly garnered a wave of support from his followers. Comments poured in expressing condolences:

* “Beautiful picture! What a lovely way to honor your friend!!”
* “Condolences Monty. A beautiful picture for your friend.”
* “My sincere condolences to you, family and friends of those she touched in life. May loving memories give solace. RIP.”
* “I’m so sorry to hear that – such a beautiful pic.”
* “Condolences to you and those who loved her. What a wonderful sky to say your farewells.”

One fan, moved by Don’s openness, remarked: “Continue to live and rest within the beauty and comfort of the world, dear man who is so generous with sharing your heart with your admirers, such as myself.”

The post comes shortly after Don discussed grief and finding solace in nature during an interview on BBC Radio 4. He reflected, “One of the things that has always moved me, and this has often been said by people who are grieving, is that the rhythm of the seasons is a huge comforter.” He continued, “In the bleakest midwinter, you trust that spring will come, that the blossom will appear. You sow a seed and you trust that it will flower. Now, sometimes it doesn’t. I mean everything is complicated and nothing is linear like that. But underneath it all, there is that rhythm of nature And I think more than ever we need that. Everybody needs it always and always has done.”

In other news, Don recently revealed a behind-the-scenes secret from the production of *Gardeners’ World*. He confessed to occasionally recreating scenes to achieve the desired visual effect. While the show is meticulously planned, filmed ten days prior to broadcast for editing purposes, Don explained his role in ensuring optimal aesthetics.

As he stated in *Gardeners’ World* magazine, “When I go round the garden prior to the meeting I am weighing up what will be relevant in three weeks’ time, as well as what is looking at its best right now.” He provided a specific example: “Last October, the leaves on the Long Walk were immaculately raked and taken to the Leafmould Bay, but we wanted to film the process. So I had to scatter them over the grass again, ready for filming!”
