Bondi Outraged by Judge’s Arrest

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi strongly condemned the recent arrest of Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Hannah Dugan by the FBI, asserting unequivocally that no one, regardless of their position, is exempt from the nation’s legal framework.

“The law applies to everyone,” Bondi stated. “Actions like destroying evidence, obstructing justice, or facilitating a criminal’s escape – as alleged in this case involving a domestic violence victim – are unacceptable and constitute federal crimes. There will be consequences.”

Judge Dugan was apprehended on charges of obstruction of an official proceeding and concealing an individual to prevent arrest after allegedly intervening to prevent immigration authorities from detaining Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, a previously deported Mexican national.

Here’s what transpired:

  • Flores-Ruiz was scheduled to appear in court before Dugan on April 18th to face three misdemeanor battery charges.
  • Federal agents from ICE, FBI, CBP, and DEA attempted to arrest him following the hearing.
  • Instead of allowing the standard procedure, Dugan allegedly directed officers to the chief judge’s office and subsequently escorted Flores-Ruiz and his attorney out a restricted jury door, avoiding public view and preventing his apprehension.

Bondi expressed disbelief at the judge’s actions, particularly given the circumstances involved – a domestic violence case.

“It is deeply troubling to see someone in such a position of authority seemingly disregard the law,” Bondi remarked. “We will pursue prosecution vigorously.”

The Attorney General’s stance extended beyond this single incident, warning that anyone aiding or harboring individuals illegally present in the country – including providing them with resources – would face legal repercussions.

“If you are shielding a fugitive, assisting in their concealment, or supplying weapons to members of criminal organizations like Tren de Aragua, we will find you and prosecute you without hesitation,” she declared.

This arrest follows another recent incident involving New Mexico Magistrate Judge Joel Cano and his wife, Nancy Cano, who were arrested on evidence tampering charges related to allegedly harboring Cristhian Ortega-Lopez, a suspected member of the Tren de Aragua gang.

Bondi emphasized the gravity of the situation: “We will not tolerate anyone providing refuge to individuals we do not want in our country. Not even judges.”
