Two Marines Killed in Accident

The United States Marine Corps confirmed that two service members were tragically killed and one remains critically ill following a vehicle incident near Santa Teresa, New Mexico. Lance Corporal Albert A. Aguilera, 22, from Riverside, California, and Lance Corporal Marcelino M. Gamino, 28, hailing from Fresno, California, perished as a result of the accident which occurred on April 15th while they were engaged in support operations for Joint Task Force Southern Border.

“According to information released by the 1st Marine Division,” stated a press release issued on April 17th, “the fatal collision transpired during a convoy movement in the vicinity of Santa Teresa.” Both men were identified as combat engineers within the 1st Combat Engineer Battalion and another Marine sustained critical injuries requiring immediate medical attention.

“The three Marines were transported to University Medical Hospital in El Paso, Texas, where Lance Corporal Aguilera and Lance Corporal Gamino were officially pronounced deceased,” the release continued. “A thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident is currently underway.”

The 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, the unit to which both deceased Marines belonged, expressed profound sorrow. “The loss of Lance Corporal Aguilera and Lance Corporal Gamino represents a significant wound within our ranks,” commented Lieutenant Colonel Tyrone A. Barrion, commanding officer of the 1st Combat Engineer Battalion and Task Force Sapper. “Our immediate focus is providing comprehensive support to their families and all Marines impacted by this devastating event.”

Lieutenant Colonel Barrion added, ““I extend my deepest sympathies and prayers to the families of our fallen brothers. We are committed to ensuring they receive the full assistance needed during this incredibly challenging time.”

The incident has prompted a response from Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, who wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “I am deeply saddened by yesterday’s tragic accident that cost the lives of two of our nation’s heroes and seriously injured another. My heartfelt condolences and prayers are with those affected, their families, and the entire unit.”
