Federal authorities are seeking information related to the arson of a Tesla Supercharger station in Lacey, Washington, following the release of surveillance footage depicting a masked individual believed to be responsible.
The incident occurred early Tuesday morning around 1:30 a.m. at the South Sound Center location. Police received numerous emergency calls reporting a loud disturbance prior to the fire. The blaze caused significant damage to the Supercharger station and its surrounding area, according to the FBI Seattle field office.
The suspect is described as a White male standing between 5’10” and 6’2”, observed wearing a dark hooded jacket, gray pants, and a face covering. The FBI noted his walk exhibits an unusual pattern—a slight limp with a noticeable kick of the right leg, often accompanied by holding his right hand behind his back.
Key details about the suspect include:
- Appears to be a White male
- Height estimated between 5’10” and 6’2”
- Wearing dark hooded jacket, gray pants, and a face covering
- Unique gait with a limp and unusual arm placement
- Carrying a possible white plastic bag
The FBI has indicated the suspect “may have” sustained injuries potentially related to proximity to an explosion or intense heat. These potential injuries could include a concussion, burns, or shrapnel wounds.
This arson is part of a larger trend of attacks on Tesla vehicles, charging stations, and dealerships across at least nine states since January. These incidents encompass arson, gunfire, and vandalism, occurring amid widespread protests connected to the appointment of Tesla CEO Elon Musk as an advisor for governmental efficiency.
“The fire resulted in substantial damage to the station and surrounding area,” stated the FBI Seattle office.
Law enforcement is urging individuals who live near Target and Kohl’s stores within the South Sound Center, or those frequenting the Chehalis Western and Woodland Creek trails, to review any security camera footage—including doorbell cameras—that may depict the suspect entering a vehicle between Monday night and Tuesday morning.
The FBI Seattle field office has established a digital tipline where potential witnesses can upload media related to the investigation. The tip line is available at fbi.gov/lacey-tesla-arson.
Tesla and Target have not responded to requests for comment. The Lacey Police Department also declined to provide a statement.
