Prescott says he could play today

Cowboys' Dak Prescott says he could 'definitely' play 'today' as he recovers from hamstring injury Sports

Dak Prescott, the Dallas Cowboys’ star quarterback, is confidently anticipating his return to the field after a significant hamstring injury.

The 31-year-old stated he feels prepared to compete immediately, expressing his readiness in an interview on Friday. “If I had to play a game today, I definitely could do that,” he affirmed. His focus remains on sustained health and performance throughout the season. “It’s about moving forward healthy to make sure I can play 17 times, 20 (games)– whatever we get to when the time’s right.”

Prescott suffered a partial hamstring avulsion—a tear where the tendon partially detached from the bone—during a game against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 9. He subsequently underwent surgery in November to address the injury.

He emphasized his progress, cautiously avoiding specific numerical assessments. “I’m getting close to where I want to be. I don’t want to put a percentage on it,” he explained.

Prescott anticipates participating in upcoming team activities, though not necessarily at full capacity. He stressed the importance of being at his peak during the fall season and avoiding premature rushes.

“I just understand my age, what I’ve had, what I’ve went through, it’s about being my best in the fall. So I’m not rushing anything, but I’m where I want to be.”

Last season, Prescott started eight games for the Cowboys, with a record of 3 wins and 5 losses. He demonstrated strong performance despite limited playing time, completing approximately 65% of his passes for a total of 1978 yards, resulting in 11 touchdowns and 8 interceptions.

His interception count last season (8) was remarkably close to the number from the previous year (9), further highlighting his consistency despite facing challenges.

The Cowboys committed to Prescott with a substantial four-year contract worth $240 million, establishing him as the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL.
