Basketball legend Isiah Thomas voiced his disapproval of LeBron James’ pre-game routine before the Lakers faced off against the Rockets Friday evening.
During an appearance as an analyst for NBA TV, Thomas expressed concern over what he perceived as a lapse in professionalism from James during his warm-up.
“I just totally 100% object to this,” Thomas stated firmly. “If I were the GM or coach, I would never allow one of my players to step onto the court looking like that. We are a professional NBA league; this isn’t summer league, and it certainly isn’t the YMCA.”
He echoed sentiments previously expressed by Steve Smith, suggesting the NBA should consider reinstating a policy requiring players to wear suits.
“The level of professionalism within our league has noticeably declined,” Thomas observed. “I admire LeBron, I’m a supporter of his, but strolling out onto the court shirtless and shooting… come on now. Where are we? What image are we projecting?”
Thomas playfully suggested NBA Commissioner Adam Silver should consider implementing a fine for such displays.
James appeared to address the criticism indirectly via a post on X following the Lakers’ decisive victory (140-109).
“Man, I was going to say something, but at this point in my career it’s useless! Anyways, congratulations JJ on a 50-win season in the West and postseason nod!” he wrote.
James contributed 14 points, alongside eight assists and four rebounds during the game.
