Kyren Lacy, a former Louisiana State University (LSU) wide receiver who once held considerable promise as an NFL player, tragically died in Houston on Sunday at the age of 24. LSU confirmed his passing.
The circumstances surrounding Lacy’s death remain unclear, with no official cause released at this time. His life had been shadowed by legal issues stemming from a December traffic accident.
According to authorities, Lacy was implicated in a collision that resulted in the death of a 78-year-old man. The incident occurred when another driver, attempting to avoid what officials described as Lacy’s reckless driving – including speeding and passing in an area where it was prohibited– lost control and crashed into another vehicle.
Following the accident, police reported that Lacy left the scene without rendering assistance. A warrant for his arrest was subsequently issued, charging him with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.

Lacy surrendered to authorities on January 12th and was released on $151,000 bail.
A grand jury was scheduled to review the evidence in the case on Monday. Prior to this announcement, a family member conveyed the news of Lacy’s death.
The loss has been deeply felt by those who knew him. Former high school teammate Rontrell Sandolph expressed his grief in an emotional Instagram post:
“All the talks, all the tears, everything, you know GOD had us!… We protected everyday we wake up and go to sleep. I promise i tell u this everyday…Prayed for ur career, ur health, everything everytime i laid my head on that pillow at night!! Even if i fell asleep without saying my prayers i wake up in middle of night and still talk to GOD for you!!! 2 why would u leave me bro?”
Rocky Arceneaux, Lacy’s agent, had previously stated that his client was fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation. Attempts to reach Alliance Management Group for comment were unsuccessful.
Lacy transferred to LSU in 2022 and experienced a standout season in 2023, recording 58 receptions for 866 yards and scoring nine touchdowns. He graduated from LSU in December.
