The music world is mourning the loss of Karen Silva, a former semi-finalist on The Voice Kids, who has died at the age of just 17. The talented singer passed away early Thursday morning after a brief but devastating hospital stay.

Silva’s passing was attributed to a haemorrhagic stroke – bleeding in the brain caused by a ruptured blood vessel. She succumbed to the condition at São João Batista Hospital in Volta Redonda, Brazil, located northwest of Rio de Janeiro.

The news has been met with immense sadness and shock from fans and fellow artists alike. A heartfelt statement was posted on her official Instagram account acknowledging the profound loss.

A Rising Star

  • Karen Silva first gained widespread recognition in 2020 when she reached the semi-finals of The Voice Kids at only twelve years old.
  • Her captivating performances and powerful vocals quickly garnered a devoted following.
  • Silva began her musical journey at age eight, receiving formal vocal training.

Lana Netto, Silva’s first vocal coach, described the young singer’s immediate talent: “She quickly enchanted everyone with her singing.”

Since her appearance on The Voice Kids five years ago, Silva had been diligently building a career that extended beyond music. She was also actively developing a clothing brand and preparing to release new material for an upcoming album.

A spokesperson for Silva’s team emphasized the significance of her legacy: “More than just a promising artist, Karen was a symbol of empowerment – especially for young Black girls who found in her an inspiration and the strength to dream. Her music, her message, and her joy leave a lasting mark on all who knew her and followed her journey.”

Her Instagram account echoed this sentiment, stating, “Her music, her message, and her joy leave a deep mark on all who met her.” The page had previously shared updates indicating she was receiving medical care and surrounded by family.

Speaking to local media, Silva’s father, Sérgio da Silva, recounted the suddenness of his daughter’s illness: “She left home to have lunch on Friday, and three hours later she was in a coma.” He expressed profound grief, saying, “For this year, 2025, we had big plans. For her, her clothing brand, new songs for her album… To know my daughter passed like this, it hurts so much. It still hasn’t sunk in.”

The family has requested privacy during this incredibly difficult time and will share further information through official channels.

Silva is survived by her parents, Manoella and Fernando, as well as her boyfriend, Marcelo. Her sudden passing has left her loved ones “in great pain.”
