Mick Jagger and his partner of nearly a decade, Melanie Hamrick, are engaged after several years of quiet commitment, she recently revealed in an interview with French magazine *Paris Match*. The news marks another chapter in the rock icon’s life, though Hamrick is reportedly unconcerned about formally solidifying their relationship.
The former ballerina, 37, disclosed the engagement during the conversation, stating, “We’ve been engaged for two or three years.” However, she expressed a certain contentment with the status quo. “Maybe one day we’ll marry, maybe not,” Hamrick explained. “We are so happy in our current life that I would be too afraid to change anything.”
Hamrick and Jagger, 81, began dating in 2014 and welcomed their son, Deveraux “Devi” Octavian Basil Jagger, in 2016. This marks Jagger’s eighth child from five different partners.
When asked about the secret to their enduring relationship, Hamrick emphasized a foundation of mutual support.
“We try to support each other, be there for each other and make sure everyone is happy. That’s all that matters to me and all I strive for.”
Rumors of an engagement first surfaced in June 2023 when Hamrick was photographed wearing a striking diamond ring on her finger. While acknowledging the gift from Jagger, she playfully downplayed its significance.
“I mean, I have to giggle because did Mick give me the ring? Yes. Is it for that finger? Yes,” she admitted, “But are we, like, horny teenagers where we’re giving each other … In my mind, it’s a promise ring. We’ll be immature and call it a promise ring.”
Jagger’s history includes one prior marriage to Bianca Jagger in 1971, ending in divorce by 1978, along with relationships that produced seven other children: Jade Sheena Jezebel Jagger; Karis Hunt Jagger; Elizabeth Scarlett Jagger; James Leroy Augustin Jagger; Georgia May Ayeesha Jagger; Gabriel Luke Beauregard Jagger; and Lucas Maurice Morad Jagger.
Their initial encounter occurred in 2014 during a Rolling Stones concert in Tokyo, where Hamrick was touring as a dancer with the American Ballet Theatre. While not an immediate spark, their connection rekindled five months later when a mutual acquaintance provided her contact information to Jagger, leading to a coffee meeting and ultimately, a romance that blossomed in Zurich.
Hamrick also expressed indifference towards the couple’s 44-year age difference, stating, “I don’t think about it. Everyone’s going to have their opinion.” She further explained her philosophy:

- “…Am I happy? Yes. Are the people in my life happy? Yes. Am I hurting anyone? No. OK, they can mind their own business.”
Hamrick added that her background as a ballet dancer has instilled in her a certain perspective, noting, “Ballet dancers meet some of the biggest stars and act, like, ‘Who are you?’ Because, to us, ballet dancers are the gods. That’s who you study and look up to.” She found Jagger to be “the perfect balance,” someone with an understanding of performance that resonated with her own world.
