Griffey at the Masters

Ken Griffey Jr., celebrated for his remarkable baseball career spanning over two decades, recently showcased a different talent: photography.

This week, the Hall of Famer traded in his glove for a camera, traveling to Augusta National Golf Club for the Masters tournament. However, he wasn’t simply attending as a spectator; Griffey arrived as an accredited photographer, capturing moments from behind the lens.

Griffey Jr.’s passion for photography isn’t new. He explained that his interest began as a way to better connect with his children.

“I was still playing — and I understand what my dad felt like coming to watch me play — but now, with social media, it was a little different. Everybody is like, ‘Oh, Ken’s here.’ My daughter literally stopped dribbling a basketball and just looked at me when she was 5, and I was like, ‘OK, I’ve got to pay more attention to what’s going on.’ And I figured nobody’s messing with the photographer. Well, let me pick it up.”

Beyond his legendary baseball skills and frequent rounds of golf, Griffey Jr. has a long-standing appreciation for the sport of golf, having played at Masters events previously.

The 13-time MLB All-Star concluded his illustrious career as one of the game’s most prolific power hitters, finishing with an impressive 630 regular-season home runs. While primarily known for his time with the Seattle Mariners, Griffey also spent a significant portion of his career (2000-2008) playing for the Cincinnati Reds.
