General dies in Moscow bombing

Russian general killed in Moscow-area car bombing, investigators say World Affairs

A high-ranking Russian military officer perished on Friday in an apparent vehicle bombing just outside of Moscow, according to the nation’s primary investigative body.

Lieutenant General Yaroslav Moskalik, who held a key position as deputy head of the main operational department within Russia’s General Staff, was fatally injured when a device detonated inside his automobile in Balashikha. The Investigative Committee confirmed that the explosive contained fragments designed to inflict maximum damage.

The identity of those responsible for this act remains unknown at this time.

This incident unfolded as White House advisor Steve Witkoff was in Moscow, engaged in discussions with President Vladimir Putin—a meeting reported by Reuters through Interfax.

The death of Moskalik follows a similar tragedy on December 17th, when Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov lost his life. A bomb concealed within an electric scooter exploded near his apartment building as he departed for work.

Russian officials have attributed Kirillov’s death to Ukraine, and Ukrainian security services have since claimed responsibility for the attack.

Further details are emerging, and this story is still developing. Updates will be provided as they become available.
