Charged after boy’s death

A tragic incident has unfolded in southern New South Wales, resulting in the death of a nine-year-old boy following an accidental shooting.

Emergency responders were dispatched to a property in Windellama shortly after 11:00 AM yesterday after receiving reports of a firearms-related emergency.

Upon arrival, officers learned that the young boy had sustained severe injuries when a firearm was unintentionally discharged. Despite immediate medical attention provided by paramedics at the scene, he tragically succumbed to his injuries.

A 14-year-old and a 33-year-old man were apprehended following the incident and taken into custody at Goulburn Police Station.

The charges filed include:

  • 14-year-old: Possession of an unauthorized firearm.
  • 33-year-old man: Allowing an unauthorised person to possess a firearm and failure to securely store the weapon.

“This is a deeply upsetting situation, and our thoughts are with the boy’s family and friends,” stated a police spokesperson.

Both individuals are expected to appear in court at a later date.
