Prime Minister Keir Starmer has initiated an unusual intervention, effectively taking control of the company from its current owner, Jingye Group, a Chinese corporation.
This decisive action is primarily aimed at averting the potential shutdown of the Scunthorpe steelworks, a facility with significant historical and economic importance to the region.
To facilitate this response, Parliament has been convened for an emergency session on Saturday. Members of Parliament will be debating new legislation designed to provide immediate support.
