Brian May Update from Anita Dobson

Sir Brian May, the celebrated guitarist of Queen, is steadily regaining his strength and vitality after experiencing a stroke last year, according to his wife, actress Anita Dobson.

Dobson shared this encouraging news during an appearance on *Good Morning Britain*, responding warmly to inquiries about her husband’s health. “Thank you both for asking. He’s very well now. Back to his old self,” she stated.

The incident occurred in August of 2024, when May suffered what medical professionals classified as a minor stroke. He publicly addressed the situation in an Instagram video released shortly thereafter, describing the unexpected onset of weakness in one arm. “All of a sudden, out of the blue, I didn’t have any control over this arm, so it was a little scary,” he recounted.

Promptly taken to Frimley Hospital with emergency assistance, May received what he described as “the most fantastic care.” Despite the initial shock, he quickly reassured his fans that his guitar playing abilities remained intact, referring to the event as a “little health hiccup.” He politely requested that well-wishers refrain from overwhelming him with sympathetic messages.

As part of his recovery process, May was advised to make certain lifestyle adjustments.

  • He was instructed not to drive.
  • Flying was discouraged.
  • Activities that significantly increased his heart rate were restricted.

While these limitations were initially in place, recent social media posts have showcased May’s gradual return to normalcy, including excursions and outings.

Dobson’s confirmation on *Good Morning Britain* solidified the impression of a remarkable recovery, affirming that May is now thriving.

The interview also provided an opportunity for Dobson to discuss her own recent return to television. She reprised her iconic role as Angie Watts in *EastEnders*, appearing briefly as a hallucination during the show’s 40th-anniversary celebrations following Sharon Watts’ injury.

Dobson described being secretly brought onto the set, “an anorak, with a hood and dark glasses” to maintain the element of surprise.

This recent health challenge wasn’t May’s only medical hurdle in recent years. He previously endured a heart attack in May 2020, requiring surgery while simultaneously recovering from a gardening-related injury.
