Former President Donald Trump unveiled several key appointments this week, addressing concerns surrounding religious freedom and security both domestically and internationally.
Among these selections is Yehuda Kaploun, a well-known Miami businessman with a long history of association with the former president. Kaploun has been appointed as the U.S. special envoy tasked with monitoring and combating antisemitism; this position carries the rank of ambassador-at-large.
“Yehuda is a successful entrepreneur and a dedicated supporter of the Jewish faith, firmly believing in the right of his people to live and worship without fear of persecution,” Trump stated on Truth Social. “Given the alarming surge in antisemitism, Yehuda will be a powerful voice for Americans and Jews worldwide, working tirelessly to foster peace. Congratulations, Yehuda!”
Further appointments include:
- Mark Walker, former U.S. Representative from North Carolina, nominated as the U.S. ambassador-at-large for international religious freedom. Walker, previously a pastor, pledged to vigorously defend religious expression.
“Religious expression is foundational to human rights,” he declared. “I will pursue those who violate these rights without relentlessness, whether on college campuses or across Sub-Saharan Africa.”
- William “Billy” Marshall III, current commissioner of the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation, appointed as the director of the Bureau of Prisons.
Walker expressed his gratitude to Trump, acknowledging the gravity of the situation. “I am acutely aware of those perpetrating these injustices against people of faith,” he wrote on X.
These appointments come amidst ongoing scrutiny regarding antisemitism and religious freedom concerns, including recent discussions involving Columbia University and allegations surrounding its handling of pro-Palestinian demonstrations and related issues.
Trump expressed confidence in Marshall’s ability to reform the criminal justice system. “Billy is a staunch supporter of law and order,” Trump wrote. “He possesses an unparalleled understanding of our prison challenges, and will help us mend our broken criminal justice system. Congratulations Billy, you will inspire us all.”
