The White House tradition of celebrating Easter with its annual Egg Roll unfolded once more, offering an afternoon of festivities for thousands of Americans. On Monday, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump welcomed visitors to the South Lawn event, which drew an estimated 30,000 guests.
“It was a beautiful day yesterday, and it’s a beautiful day today,” remarked President Trump, kicking off the celebrations alongside the Easter Bunny. The event featured a range of engaging activities designed for all ages, including:
- The traditional egg roll – a cornerstone of the celebration.
- A “Be Best” Military Card Writing Station, encouraging creativity and service.
- “Be Best Hop Scotch,” an interactive game promoting movement and fun.
- A Reading Nook, offering a quiet space to enjoy stories.
Beyond these core elements, attendees enjoyed a diverse selection of entertainment and hands-on experiences. Flower bouquet building stations allowed children to create their own arrangements, while egg and cookie decorating provided opportunities for artistic expression. Soccer ball kicking and tunnel running offered energetic outlets, complemented by numerous patriotic photo opportunities designed to capture the spirit of the day.
“A very happy Easter to everyone,” President Trump declared, emphasizing the significance of the occasion. “It’s one of our favorite periods of time. We’re honoring Jesus Christ . And, we’re going to honor Jesus Christ very powerfully throughout our lives, all throughout our lives.” He further stated, “We’re bringing religion back in America.”
First Lady Melania Trump added her own sentiments, highlighting the importance of the event. “Easter is special. And it’s one of our favorite days,” she shared. She also expressed gratitude for the East Wing Staff who worked diligently to prepare the festivities.
During the event, a lighthearted moment occurred when President Trump reminisced about past Egg Roll appearances, playfully recalling an incident involving former Vice President Joe Biden and the Easter Bunny. “When the bunny took Joe Biden out… He’s not taking Trump out. That was a good, beautiful moment when the bunny saved Joe Biden’s life,” he chuckled.
Following the initial activities, children engaged in coloring Easter-themed artwork, while the First Lady captivated an audience with her reading of “Bunny with a Big Heart” by Marilyn Sadler, imparting lessons on friendship and kindness. The United States Marine Band, Army Band, Navy Band, Air Force Band, Army Old Guard Fife & Drum Corps and “Go with YoYo” provided musical entertainment.
Attendance at the event was carefully managed through an online lottery that concluded on March 10th. Each participating child received a commemorative wooden egg as a keepsake to remember the special occasion – “a souvenir wooden eggs as a commemorative piece to take home,” explained organizers.
