Rick Thorburn dies in Queensland jail

Rick Thorburn, convicted of murdering his foster daughter Tiahleigh Palmer, is deceased. The 64-year-old was discovered unresponsive in his cell at Woodford Correctional Centre in Queensland.

Thorburn received a life sentence for the tragic death of 12-year-old Palmer and the subsequent disposal of her remains along the Pimpama River near Gold Coast in 2015.

Queensland Corrective Services confirmed the circumstances surrounding his passing:

“The 64-year-old man was housed in a single cell and found unresponsive at approximately 10pm. Responding officers contacted Queensland Ambulance Service and attempted resuscitation; however, these efforts proved unsuccessful. The incident has been reported to police and QCS will provide assistance with their inquiry.”

The death within the correctional facility will be reviewed by the coroner.
