Dobson Updates on May’s Recovery

Rock legend Brian May is steadily recovering from a stroke he suffered last August, according to his wife, Anita Dobson.

The Queen guitarist, 76, revealed in September of 2024 on Instagram that he was hospitalized after experiencing the health event. In a candid post shared with his 3.4 million followers, May described the experience as “a little scary,” explaining that he suddenly lost control of one arm.

“I’m here to bring you, first of all, some news, I think,” he wrote. “The good news is that I can play guitar after the events of the last few days. What they called it was a ‘minor stroke.’ All of a sudden, out of the blue, I didn’t have any control over this arm, so it was a little scary.”

May emphasized the exceptional care he received at Frimley Hospital and highlighted the intensity of his recovery process.

“It took sheer willpower,” he stated. “I couldn’t get a fork from the table to my mouth without it all going all over the place. It was scary.”

Speaking with Premier Guitar earlier this year, May detailed his rapid progress, noting that he regained a significant portion of his abilities.

“After only a few days, it’s amazing what you can get back,” he said. “By sheer willpower, you just start retraining your muscles.”

He assured fans that he was doing well, estimating he had recovered about 95% of his abilities – “enough” for him.

Dobson recently provided an update on May’s condition during an appearance on *Good Morning Britain*, confirming he is now “back to his old self.”

The couple, who have been together for nearly 40 years after meeting in 1986 and marrying in 2000, have also faced other challenges recently. Dobson previously shared that the start of the year was difficult due to both of them contracting the flu, compounded by a trip to Lapland with 15 children.

She reflected on the fragility of life, stating:

“It makes you realise that at any minute it could be you. You don’t have to necessarily be old, it could be anyone.”

Dobson also discussed the adjustment to country living after relocating from London, noting that renovating their new home has been a significant undertaking.

During her appearance on *Good Morning Britain*, Dobson spoke about her recent return to *EastEnders* as Angie Watts and her upcoming role in *Doctor Who*.
