A Brazilian national, previously deported from the United States, is now in federal custody facing serious charges related to the sexual abuse of a child in Massachusetts.
Ilma Leandro De Oliveira, 53, was apprehended on March 20th in Falmouth, Massachusetts, approximately 70 miles southeast of Boston. The arrest involved agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
As stated by Patricia H. Hyde, acting Field Office Director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston:
>“Ilma Leandro De Oliveira is charged with seven distinct crimes concerning the sexual exploitation of a child within our Massachusetts community. These are offenses we will not condone.”
De Oliveira’s history with U.S. immigration authorities reveals prior attempts to enter the country illegally. She was initially detained by U.S. Border Patrol agents on September 20, 2007, after crossing into the United States near Laredo, Texas. She received a notice and order for expedited removal and was subsequently deported on December 27, 2007.
Despite this deportation, De Oliveira is believed to have re-entered the country at an unspecified time and location.
The charges against her, formally presented in Falmouth court on March 18th, include:
* Rape of a child
* Reckless endangerment of a child
* Indecent exposure
* Indecent assault and battery on a child under 14
* Unnatural acts with a child
* Aggravated statutory rape of a child
* Incest
Last week, De Oliveira was transferred to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service. In addition to prosecution for the sex crimes, she will also face charges related to illegally re-entering the United States after having been deported.
